Our Interest in the Order of the Amaranth The Order of the Amaranth is a Masonically related organization founded in the late 1800's to provide a way for the Ladies of Masons to participate in Masonic activities. Originally there were to have been three degrees for Ladies similar to the three Blue lodge degrees. The first degree was to be the Order of the Eastern Star, now the largest of the Ladies organizations. The second degree was to have been "Queen of the south". This degree has become obsolete. The third or highest degree was to be "The order of the Amaranth". This order was started under the requirement that you must first be a member of the Eastern Star before you could be a member of the Amaranth. This requirement was later deleted. Our Court in Susanville is "Honey Lake Court #1". It is the oldest court west of New York and is the third oldest in the world. Rita and Don joined the court in 1999 during a period when it was feared that the lack of members would cause the Court to close. Fortunately we have found some new members and are on the way to bringing our Court back into a healthy condition. Rita and Don have been the Royal Matron and Patron of the Court during the year 2000. We have included a link to both the California Grand Court, and the Supreme Court of the Amaranth, so that you can see more of the beauty and grandeur the order. We are including some pictures of our Installation as Royal Matron and Patron and also some additional pictures with captions.
